This brief was set by G. F Smith, G. F Smith offers paper products, special makes and highly bespoke services tailored
specifically, to the needs of the creative industries. My task was to choose a piece of mail which I have received in the post, or via email, and to re-format the mail into a designed, paper based physical piece by using G. F Smith paper.
The format was open but it still had to conceptually and creatively link to my choice of mail. The purpose of the outcome was to
explore the creative potential of G. F Smith paper, first and foremost – the actual, original message.
The chosen email in which I reformatted into a paper based piece was from ‘Skiddle’. Skiddle is a primary ticket outlet and events
guide based in Preston. It deals with event bookings, registrations, promotion and online ticket sales.
Every week I receive a personalised update of an events guide, which shows a list of previous and upcoming events.
Going to events and seeing my favourite DJ’s is something which I really enjoy doing, so I chose this email because personally
I would love to receive a physical product which is personal to me from Skiddle, full of memories and upcoming events.
I think that by creating this email into something physical by using a range of different coloured, textures and well-crafted
paper really has potential. Having to hold and read through something will engage the reader, rather than
receiving an email which they’re more than likely going to delete.
I had to consider the originator of the mail as the audience for my work, and develop ideas for my outcome that creatively links to them.
I haven’t yet printed the final designed product… More pics to come!
